Week IX: Space and Art

Space has always been a peculiar concept to grasp for me. It’s a strange concept to come to terms with, because how is it actually possible for humans to know what exists that far away? Humans have developed amazing technology in the the past 50-60 years. Since the start of the space during the Cold War against the Soviet Union, the US has been instrumental in advancement of technology regarding space, that has allowed people to explore the great heights of space. With the competition between the two nations, it was important for the U.S. to come out on top, which resulted in our nation sending the first astronaut to space. The fascination with space was even apparent in American TV shows and movies, one example being Star Trek, exploring the great advancements made by the U.S.. It showed what humans’ lives would be like in the space filled futuristic world.

Cosmic Dancer by Arthur Woods was one of the pieces I really enjoyed. I thought the structure of the piece was so interesting to try to divulge. This was the first three-dimensional artwork to be designed and released into space. If I understood correctly, this project was designed to explore the weightlessness of space.

Private companies, nowadays, carry out the technologies of the future. SpaceX, for example, continues aerospace advances. Falcon9 is the most recent advancement, which explores reusable rockets. This specific advancement would save so much money for the country and technology in general, around 20 million dollars. It’s always amazing to see the advancements that technology can accomplish.

The art aspect of space is so amazing to me! I don’t think space advancement would be possible without art.
